Missing or Zero Metrics

Last updated: April 30, 2026

Short Answer

If metrics like COGS, Gross Profit, Margin, ROI, or Ad Spend show as $0 or do not appear, it usually means the required source data has not been set up yet. Each metric depends on specific inputs -- once those inputs are provided, the metrics calculate automatically.

Why This Happens

COGS Shows $0

Cause: You have not set the cost of goods for your products.

Dashboardly does not guess your product costs. You need to tell it how much each product costs you to purchase or manufacture.

What to do:

  1. Go to the Inventory page.
  2. Enter the unit cost for each product or SKU.
  3. Alternatively, use the Import COGS button to upload costs in bulk via CSV.

Once COGS is set, Gross Profit, Margin, and other cost-dependent metrics will calculate automatically.

See Setting Up COGS for a full guide.

Gross Profit Shows $0

Cause: COGS is $0 (not set).

Gross Profit = Net Sales - Cost of Goods Sold. If COGS is zero, Gross Profit equals Net Sales, which may look incorrect. If COGS is not set at all, Gross Profit may not display.

What to do: Set your COGS (see above).

ROI Does Not Display (shows "--" or blank)

Cause: Total costs are zero, so ROI cannot be calculated.

ROI = Net Profit / Total Costs. If the denominator (total costs) is zero -- which happens when COGS and other expenses are not set -- the calculation would divide by zero, so Dashboardly leaves the field blank instead of showing a misleading number.

What to do:

  1. Set your COGS on the Inventory page.
  2. Add any manual adjustments for known expenses (see Manual Adjustments).
  3. Once costs are greater than zero, ROI will calculate and display.

Margin Shows 100% or Does Not Display

Cause: COGS is zero or Net Sales is zero.

  • If COGS is $0, margin calculations may show 100% (because no cost is subtracted from revenue). This is technically correct but misleading -- it means cost data is missing.
  • If Net Sales is $0 or negative (e.g., a period with only refunds), margin cannot be calculated.

What to do: Set your product costs. Margin becomes meaningful once COGS is entered.

Ad Spend Shows $0

Cause: Ad spend data may not be connected or is not available for the selected date range.

TikTok Ad data is separate from TikTok Shop order data. For ad spend to appear in Dashboardly:

  1. Your TikTok Ads account must be connected.
  2. Ad campaigns must have spend in the selected date range.
  3. The data must have been imported successfully.

What to do:

  • Check that your TikTok Ads account is connected in Settings > Marketing.
  • Verify that you have active campaigns with spend during the date range you are viewing.
  • If ad data is connected but still shows $0, try a manual sync from Settings > Accounts.

Affiliate Commission Shows $0

Cause: There may be no affiliate-driven orders in the selected period, or the commission type may not match.

TikTok has different types of affiliate commissions, including creator commissions paid to content creators who promote your products. If you expect affiliate data but see $0, check that the date range includes orders that came through affiliates.

Tips

  • COGS is the most impactful setup step. Setting product costs unlocks the majority of profit-related metrics across all pages.
  • You can set COGS at any time. Even if you have been using Dashboardly for months, setting costs retroactively updates all historical metrics.
  • Check the Inventory page first whenever profit metrics look wrong or missing. The most common cause is missing cost data.

When to Contact Support

  • If you have set COGS for all products but Gross Profit still shows $0 after refreshing and waiting 5 minutes.
  • If your TikTok Ads account is connected but ad spend data never appears after a full sync.
  • If metrics display correctly for some date ranges but not others, and the issue is not related to settlement timing.
